Riverview sees surging construction activity this year

Many municipalities continue to see surging construction activity, and Riverview is no exception.

Town officials said construction activity is already double what it was at this time last year.

A total of 110 building permits worth more than $61 million were issued during the first half of the year.

“The Town of Riverview is seeing a boom in building activity with varied housing typologies being built,” Jenna Stewart, planner at Plan360, said in a news release.

Residential development is leading the way, with permits issued for 273 new housing units across 60 different projects.

That marks a 77 per cent increase in the number of approved units over the same period last year, said town officials.

It includes 204 multi-residential units, 44 semi-detached dwelling units, 17 single-dwelling units, eight townhouse and row house units and one mobile home.

“This strong start to the year – with construction activity already double what it was at this time last year, along with progress on vacant land development initiatives – demonstrates the growing momentum in Riverview,” Mayor Andrew LeBlanc said in the release.

“Every permit represents more than just bricks and mortar — it’s about building a better future.”

Riverview continues to see a growing demand for housing. The vacancy rate stood at one per cent as of October, up from 0.7 per cent one year earlier.

The news comes as the City of Moncton reports more building permits approved so far in 2025 than in all of 2024, with year-to-date totals reaching $309.7 million.

That puts the city just $56 million short of its record year in 2022, when permits hit $366 million.
