Summer ice still popular in Fort Frances

There appears to be growing interest in the use of the Ice for Kids Arena in Fort Frances.

Sales for this year are up over the start of the pilot last year.

Recreation and Culture Manager Elisa McLeod reports that 34% of all ice time available in July and August has been accounted for so far.

Last year, the first of a two-year pilot, 27% of ice time was used.

McLeod is expected to have more sales this summer.

“Our current budgeted revenue amount is 46,000. We’ve already hit 40,000,” says McLeod.

“We are doing advertisement for, you know, the other communities and hopefully more of Northwestern Ontario. So, we’re hoping to see an increase.”

A final report on ice-time use during the summer is expected to come before town council later this year.
