The town of Fort Frances is preparing to pilot some new rules governing food trucks.
The measures include new business licenses, allowing operators to conduct business for short periods, ranging from 20 weeks to one day.
Out-of-town trucks will also have a streamlined business application process and be required to provide proof of insurance and a valid health inspection.
They will also be required to be in the vicinity of washroom facilities.
Chief Building Official John Burrows says locations will be screened.
“Being on private property, we would want to see commitment by those private property owners to allow public use of their facilities in conjunction with the food trucks,” says Burrows.
“Locations on town properties, we would want to make sure that they are in the vicinity of publicly accessible washrooms.”
Burrows notes this is in line with provincial regulations pertaining to food establishments, including food trucks.
The pilot will run until the end of 2026, giving the town time to assess the success and determine whether the requirements should be continued permanently.
