A driver is facing charges after a Traffic Control Person (TCP) was injured when hit by the car during a time of celebration in Antigonish.

The Town says in a social media post, it was during the Highland Games parade over the weekend, when the driver ignored traffic control and tried to bypass a barricade.

“While we’re relieved that the TCP’s injury is minor, this incident is unacceptable and could have resulted in serious injury or even death,” says the Town.

The post says the Highland Games show the “best of our community,” but safety must remain top priority.

“Our staff, volunteers, and contractors work hard to ensure roads are managed properly and safely for everyone. When directions are ignored or challenged, the consequences can be serious,” adds the Town.

The Town says it is not about any one event, but a “shared responsibility” to protect each other; and there is no excuse for reckless behavior.
