It is described as the largest cannabis seizure on record in a decade, and it happened in Saint John.

Canada Border Services Agency officers seized more than 6,700 kilograms of suspected cannabis at Port Saint John on May 21.

The seizure was announced on Monday, with officials saying the suspected cannabis was valued at $49.6 million.

CBSA said the drugs were concealed in nearly 400 boxes inside a marine container that was destined for Scotland.

“The quantity seized in this single shipment is three times more than the total amount of cannabis seized by the CBSA across Canada in the previous year,” the agency said in a news release.

cannabis smuggling supports organized crime and helps fund other illegal activities, such as narcotics and weapons smuggling.
