A 22-year-old man is in custody after a police chase over the weekend.

Halifax police say they  spotted a car speeding on Highway 102 at about 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, according to a news release.

Smoke and debris were coming from a blown out rear tire.

Police turned on their sirens and tried to pull the car over but it drove away.

During the chase, the suspect lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of Transom Drive and Starboard Drive and hit a police vehicle, which had its lights on, the release says.

Officers surrounded the vehicle down the road at the roundabout between Larry Uteck Boulevard and Nine Mile Drive.

The 22-year-old man resisted arrest but police took him in at about 9:10 p.m.

He faces charges for:

  • resisting arrest
  • dangerous driving
  • fleeing from police
  • possessing tools to break into a house
  • illegally owning or selling tobacco products

Police also has an outstanding warrant for the man from the Bridgewater RCMP.
