Street performers from around the world are returning to downtown Moncton this summer.
The third annual Moncton Buskers Festival takes place at Riverfront Park from July 18 to 20.
Patrick Richard is the executive director of Downtown Moncton Centre-ville Inc., which hosts the event in partnership with the city.
“I think this is slowly becoming a tradition for the folks of Greater Moncton and southeast New Brunswick,” Richard said in a recent interview.
Riverfront Park will come alive with circus acts, contortionists, street performers and more during the family-friendly celebration.
Back by popular demand is Victor Rubilar from Argentina, who wowed crowds during the inaugural Moncton Buskers Festival in 2023.
He will be joined by Nigel Blackstorm — who performed last year as Magic Brian — Alakazam, Mighty Quinn and Her Majesty’s Secret Circus Show.
“We run two simultaneous stages where basically performances are happening every half hour, so folks are able to come down, get a bite to eat, take in some shops or walk around and then take in some entertainment,” said Richard.
Several local artists will also perform throughout the weekend, with details to be announced closer to the festival.
While all of the performances are free, Richard said people are encouraged to tip the buskers depending on how much they enjoyed the show.
“People can come downtown, they can take in a show, they can take in 10 shows, and if they enjoy the show and if they feel that the busker was entertaining, they can then pay what they can,” he said.
“That allows people from all different walks of life to take in some really world-class entertainment and enjoy the shows.”
