Eight trails in Dieppe have been named after women who helped to shape the history of the city.
Their names and biographical panels were unveiled on Saturday as part of the Women Trailblazers project.
They are being recognized for their community involvement, leadership, creativity and contributions to education, the arts and social justice.
“These women opened doors for today’s and tomorrow’s generations. By revealing their names, we pay tribute to them and strengthen our collective memory,” Mayor Yvon Lapierre said in a news release.
The following are the eight newly named trails recognizing pioneering women:
- Ada Forbes Trail (health)
- Brenda LeBlanc Trail (political life)
- Dorothy Nye Trail (Indigenous)
- France Daigle Trail (arts and literature)
- Joanne (JoJo) LeBlanc Trail (sports)
- Laure Bradley Trail (intercultural relations)
- Rebecca LeBlanc Trail (environment)
- Shaaron Gionet Trail (entrepreneurship)
Women Trailblazers is described as the first of its kind in the province and helps correct the historic underrepresentation of women in public spaces.
