Bear, 2 cubs cause road closure in Dartmouth

By Caitlin Snow May 27, 2025 | 12:19 PM

A bear and a cub caused a bit of a traffic delay in Dartmouth, Tuesday.

Around 11:30 a.m., police said in a release that were helping with traffic control while the Department of Natural Resources responded to the bear.

DNR told our newsroom in an email that the bear was found in a homeowner’s tree.

Waverley Road was shut down between Craigburn Drive and Twighlight Lane for a short period of time while the bears left the property.

DNR said residents should be aware that if you live close to the woods, bears may be nearby.

They should keep dogs supervised and on-leash when bears are around. People can avoid attracting bears by removing all sources of food like garbage bins, compost, bird feeders, and pet food from your property. By reducing the amount of accessible food, you can reduce the chance of encountering a bear in your backyard,” said DNR.
