More housing units are coming to the Gaelic College campus in Mabou.

The province says construction will start right away on a two-story building that will have 24 units. They estimate it will be done in January 2026.

The government is giving $3 million to the project, and the total cost is $4.9 million.

Students will be able to rent rooms throughout the school year, while tourists and seasonal workers will have the option between May and August.

The college is the only one in North America that focuses on the culture of immigrants from the Highlands of Scotland.

“We are very thankful to the Province of Nova Scotia for this funding. This is a historic day for Colaisde na Gàidhlig and Beinn Mhàbu and will make a difference for our students and the broader community. A special thanks to advisory chair Joe Shannon, who was key in making this project a reality,” wrote Rodney MacDonald, the president of Colaisde na Gàidhlig, also known as The Gaelic College.
