A 50-year-old man has been charged after barricading himself inside a home in Yarmouth County.

It happened late Monday night in Sand Beach.

RCMP say they responded to a report of a man with a firearm who had assaulted a woman inside a home on Wyman Road.

The woman and another man were able to exit the home safely, the accused was the only one inside the home when police arrived.

The man exited the home the next afternoon, but did not comply with officers’ directions and was arrested.

He’s charged with possession of a weapon and assault, and remains in custody after a Tuesday court appearance.

A heavy police presence was brought in, including an RCMP negotiator and additional support units.

Officers closed off Wyman Road and asked the public to stay away from the area during the response.
