Fort Frances: Missing person found dead leading to murder charge

A 53-year-old from Fort Frances is facing a murder charge after a missing person was found dead.

On Thursday, officers responded to a report of a missing person identified as Curtis Medicine, a 41-year-old from Rainy River First Nation.

On Saturday, officers located the man deceased at a home on Fifth Street West.

A postmortem is being conducted at the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS) in Toronto.

As a result, 53-year-old Joseph Desrosiers of Fort Frances has been arrested on the following charges:

  • Second degree murder
  • Indignity to a dead body
  • Failure to comply with a release order

The accused remains in custody with a future court date.

“There is no threat to public safety,” said the provincial police in a release. “Residents can continue to expect a police presence in the area for the investigation.”

The investigation into the matter remains ongoing.
