A lease extension for a shelter in Dartmouth.
The province says The Bridge will stay open for another five years.
Scott Armstrong, opportunities and social development minister says, it is a powerful example of government and community partners coming together to support vulnerable Nova Scotians.
“The Bridge offers more than just immediate shelter – it provides a pathway to stable housing. The success of this model shows that with the right support, people can move from crisis to stability,” says Armstrong.
Since it opened May 1, 2023, it has provided shelter for more than 400 people, with 98 who have moved on to other housing options including private, non-profit and public housing.
The province says, The Bridge has also reduced emergency department visits and long-term hospital stays with more than 6,300 visits to the on-site health clinic in the past two years.
Other supports include an occupational therapist, continuing care coordinator, VON, the Mobile Outreach Street Health clinic as well as mental health counsellors.
The lease runs until March 31, 2030.
