A record-setting campaign for Safeway for the benefit of the Salvation Army in Fort Frances.
The store’s Joy of Giving Campaign raised more than $10,700 for the agency.
The Salvation Army’s Ryan Daw is very appreciative.
“Safeway’s really stepped up to the plate for the community. They’ve been amazing and inspirational to really everybody in the sense that they were able to gather this amount of money, considering the economic hard times that we have,” says Daw.
Daw says the local store also provided over 8,000 pounds of food over the last two months to distribute through the food bank.
Daw says the donations come at a perfect time.
“It’s under immense pressure due to the economic hardships that exist at the moment, and it will be much needed and much put to use,” says Daw.
The campaign was run in December.
Customers were asked to donate or round up their purchases at the till.
Store manager Kiefer Childerhose says the support was overwhelming.
“It’s wonderful to see that the community really stepped up to help us exceed our goal,” says Childerhose.
“Our goal was only $8,000, and we exceeded it by almost $3,000. It’s the most the store has raised in a few years. It’s great to see that large amount that we were able to raise for the people of Fort Frances.”
