Inverness County salmon conservation group gets $100,000 from province

By Jacob Moore Mar 28, 2025 | 3:42 PM

The province is spending $100,000 to support salmon in Inverness County.

The money will go to Margaree Salmon Association, a non-profit conservation group, according to a news release.

The province says climate change is warming up the Margaree River, and extreme weather can knock branches or other debris into the water, blocking passages for fish.

The association plans to put use the money to put structures in the water to help fish travel. They also plan to hire two technicians to help monitor and create a watershed management plan.

They say it will help maintain the health of the river and its ecosystem, as well as the livelihood of anyone who depends on it.
