The Special Weather Statement for northwestern Ontario has been upgraded.
It’s now a Snowfall Warning.
Weather preparedness meteorologist Geoff Coulson says even though it won’t be that cold, the precipitation will still fall in the form of snow.
“It looks like for northwestern Ontario it going to stay just cold enough to be a snow event,” Coulson explains.
“The warmest air, and even some of the warmer air above the surface, which gives us the potential for the freezing rain and ice pellets, that surge of warmer, air is likely going to stay in areas further to the east.”
Coulson adds there’s a reason why they wanted to give lots of notice on Wednesday about the Special Weather Statement and the Snowfall Warning today.
“We’re seeing a coming together of the weather models, a bunch of different weather models, coming to agree on conditions. And also, the fact we’re getting late in the season, it was felt for these reasons to get the word out a little early, knowing people are planning travel.”
Snowfall amounts are now expected to be between 15 and 25 centimeters.
