A woman is facing charges after her vehicle took a trip onto the ice on Lake Superior.

Officers were sent to Mission Island Marsh Conservation Area on Friday after receiving reports of a vehicle leaving the roadway.

When they arrived they found that a vehicle had left the parking lot and came to a stop along rocks on the shore of the lake.

The driver showed signs of impairment while speaking to officers and they were taken into custody.

The vehicle was removed from the lake and it will be held for seven days.

As a result, a 27-year-old has been charged with impaired operation of a vehicle and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

The accused has been released from custody with conditions and a future court date.
