A local resident is facing a fraud charge following a lengthy investigation in the city.
The investigation started in 2023 after leaders of a hockey organization in Thunder Bay noticed some money was missing.
Investigators found multiple transactions where funds were removed from the organization’s accounts.
At the end of February, a suspect was identified and they were informed of their impending charge and they were served with a court appearance notice.
As a result, a 69-year-old from Thunder Bay is facing a fraud over $5,000 charge.
Last year, the Neebing Minor Hockey Association released a letter that included the acknowledgment of an ongoing fraud investigation into their organization.
The organization also cited at the time that they were dealing with financial constraints due to outstanding bills from their previous season but highlighted the situation had been resolved.
City police have not confirmed if the matters are connected.
