Northern Ontario MP supports U.S. boycott

A northern Ontario MP is supporting a boycott of U.S. goods and services.

NDP MP Charlie Angus says he has already heard from Canadians foregoing vacations and business trips south of the border or seeking out Canadian alternatives to U.S. products.

“Standing up at this trade war, we see that Donald Trump doesn’t have the backbone and will not have the backbone to take us on, but he will continue,” says Angus.

“And if we start to show weakness then our future will be at stake.”

Angus says as Canada and Canadians push back, American jobs and the American economy will suffer.

The Timmins-James Bay MP would like to see the federal government take a similar action with its procurement policies.

“The government needs to be out there with Canadians. We need to have a really strong position that we are not going to involve ourselves with any American contracts.”

Angus would like to see MPs back in the House of Commons as soon as possible and a plan tabled that shows all Canada parliamentarians are as united around.
