Crombie lobbies for all-party trade committee

Ontario’s Liberal leader wants an all-party committee formed to identify the barriers to inter-provincial trade and solutions to address them.

Bonnie Crombie says she has sees it as a key step toward diversifying Ontario’s economy and trade partners.

“Would have made sense years ago to lessen our reliance in our US neighbour, whether it was abroad or it was nationally here,” says Crombie.

“Seems like a low-hanging fruit. Kind of a no-nonsense approach to break down interprovincial trade barriers as the first step to diversifying our trading partners.”

Crombie supports the need for retaliatory tariffs to show Canada and the province will not be pushed around.

But she says breaking down interprovincial tariff barriers is a homegrown effort to strengthen our economy.

“By working together, we can bring stakeholders and industry along and work together with party leaders in other provinces.”

Crombie says an all-party committee also shows unity when approaching the federal government.
