A new councillor has been elected for the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth
Trevor Perry won Saturday’s byelection in District 7 with 279 votes, or nearly 64 per cent.
Charles MacIsaac, who also ran for the vacant seat, received 159 votes.
Voter turnout for the byelection was just over 37 per cent, according to the municipality.
The seat became vacant after former councillor Nick Hilton stepped down in December.
He was elected as the MLA for Yarmouth in November’s provincial election.
Around 1,100 electors live in District 7, which includes Chebogue, Rockville, Kelly’s Cove, Sand Beach, parts of Arcadia, Brooklyn and Greenville.
