Two accessible buses coming to Port Hawkesbury

Port Hawkesbury is getting two new accessible buses.

The Strait Area Transit Co-Op says the buses will let them transport larger groups, including people who use wheelchairs or other mobility aids.

The feds will spend more than $630,000 on them, with about $200,000 more from the Town of Port Hawkesbury, and $85,000 from the province.

The general manager of Strait Area Transit says rural transport is essential for many people.

Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton says the town is happy to help bring more accessible transit to the area.

The town will also use some of the funds to create multi-use pathways and accessible sidewalks.
