Residents in the Municipal District of St. Stephen no longer need to boil their water before drinking it.
A boil water order in place for nearly two weeks has been rescinded, the municipality announced on Friday afternoon.
“You can resume normal water usage and drink tap water directly without boiling it,” said an updated statement sent through Alertable.
“It’s recommended to run your faucets for a few minutes to flush out your plumbing.”
The order had been in place since Saturday, Feb. 8, following a pump failure at the Maxwell Crossing facility
Municipal officials later said the failure was caused by an air leak disrupting the vacuum on the main water pump.
Work continues to identify and repair the cause of the pump failure, with the municipality noting that inclement weather and temperatures have made the work “additionally challenging.”
While the issue remains at the facility, officials said “operational changes” were implemented to isolate the problematic area and allowed for water testing to begin on Wednesday.
The municipality required two acceptable test results before the boil water order could be lifted.
