6 new wind farms to pop up in N.S. by 2028

By Kevin Northup Jan 27, 2025 | 3:07 PM

It’s going to be the single largest reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the province’s history.

Six new wind farms are coming, they’re expected to add 19 percent more clean electricity to the power grid.

Eleven large-scale customers, including the province, will be part of the ‘Green Choice Program.’

Energy minister Trevor Boudreau says private wind investors are paying big money to be a part of it

“They’re investing about $1.2 billion in capital costs to build these wind farms. About half of that will be spent in the local supply chain here in Nova Scotia,” said Boudreau.

Mi’kmaw communities also have ownership in the farms, they’ll be located in Pictou, Antigonish, Hants, Halifax, Cumberland and Inverness counties.

Boudreau says it will also create 700 construction jobs.

“We’re reaping all kinds of economic rewards, we’re making our province more sustainable and independent, and we’re well on our way to a prosperous future for all Nova Scotians.”

The wind farms are expected to be ready by 2028.
