Deadline looms for Liberal leadership candidates

Time is counting down for Liberal leadership candidates to come forward.

The deadline is January 23rd, and contestants must raise a $350,000 entrance fee.

The party will choose Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s replacement on March 9th.

Among candidates so far are the former finance minister, Chrystia Freeland, the former governor of the Bank of Canada, Mark Carney, and Burlington, ON MP and government House leader, Karina Gould.

Earlier this month, Sydney-Victoria, NS MP, Jaime Battiste, announced his candidacy, aiming to become Canada’s first Indigenous prime minister.

The Liberal party will choose Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s replacement on March 9th.
