Most of Confederation College’s campuses across the region are launching a new program.

The Thunder Bay, Dryden, Kenora, Fort Frances, Marathon, and Longlac campuses are launching a fast-tracked Practical Nursing Program.

“This initiative not only makes nursing education more accessible, but it also directly addresses the pressing need for skilled healthcare professionals in our communities,” said the Dean of Workforce Development, Carol Cline. “We are thrilled to be part of this critical investment in healthcare education.”

The Ministry of Health is supporting the program and tuition, fees, uniforms, textbooks, and some travel costs for labs are fully covered for eligible students.

Qualifying students will need to pay their application fee through the Ontario College Application Service.

“This new funding removes many of the financial barriers for students interested in pursuing a nursing career,” said President Michelle Salo. “We are proud to offer this opportunity to learners throughout Northwestern Ontario and to support the province’s efforts to strengthen the province’s health system.”

The program is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents and is currently accepting applications.

Those looking to apply for the program must do so by March 7.

Classes get underway on March 10 and will follow an accelerated schedule that enables students to graduate from the typically two-year program, in 16 months by June 2026.

The program provides hands-on training alongside classroom learning, preparing graduates to deliver nursing care while saving students thousands of dollars.
