Winter tourism in Thunder Bay is receiving a boost from the federal government.

FedNor is providing the city with $230,821.

“Tourism provides a wide range of economic benefits to communities, and so investments like this have a wide range of impacts,” said the Minister responsible for FedNor, Patty Hadju. “Thunder Bay is a special place and this project will help locals and visitors experience it as a winter wonderland full of beauty and excitement. Community is at the centre of our lives, and that is why we support projects that help build both the local economy and culture.”

The funding is being used to support SnowDay on the Waterfront.

The event is taking place on Family Day, at Prince Arthur’s Landing in Marina Park and offers residents a chance to enjoy ice fishing, snowshoeing, art, outdoor games, and more.

The funding is coming through the federal Tourism Growth Program which delivers funds over three years and also offers reimbursements.

It was noted that some of the funds were used to support the city with the 2024 Ontario Winter Games.
