The bitterly cold weather is going to continue for the first part of this week.

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for northwestern Ontario.

“That’s going to last for the Monday, even Tuesday, particularly along the U.S. border with Minnesota,” said Meteorologist Trudy Kidd.

Daytime highs will range from -22°C to -29°C on Monday, warming up slightly to around -20°C on Tuesday.

However, with the wind, it will feel more like -40 to -45 across the region. Wind chill values could reach -50 in extreme northwestern regions.

Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with the wind chill, according to the weather agency.

Kidd said the weather will start to moderate somewhat by the middle of the week.

“It’s still going to be significantly colder than normal, and then we return back to normal, which is still frigid,” she said.

Daytime highs across the region will range from -11°C to -14°C on Wednesday.
