Dieppe approves nearly 1,200 housing units in 2024

By Brad Perry Jan 13, 2025 | 6:28 AM

It was a record-breaking year for housing permits in Dieppe, according to city officials.

The city approved nearly 1,200 new housing units for construction over the past year.

Mayor Yvon Lapierre said the city is strategically positioning itself to address its housing issues and needs.

“Our new 2025-2029 strategic plan focuses on sustainable development and prosperity, so that we can continue to develop as a city while also enhancing our green spaces,” Lapierre said in a news release.

The new construction is one of many solutions proposed in the housing strategy adopted by Council last spring to increase housing availability and affordability.

A housing needs study conducted for the strategy found between 3,500 and nearly 4,400 new housing units will be needed by 2033 to meet anticipated demand.

“New construction in key areas of the municipality enhances our living environment by encouraging investment in infrastructure and public transit while further stimulating the economy,” Alexandre Girard, director of planning and development, said in the releas.e

The city added it continues to promote a diverse and sustainable community that considers the housing needs of all current and future residents, while ensuring that the quality of life of the entire community is protected and enhanced.
