Good news for those looking to take a skate along the waterfront in uptown Saint John.

The new free outdoor community rink at Ihtohli-maqahamok – The Gathering Space is now open.

Residents and visitors alike will be able to lace up their skates every day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

“City staff will continue to work to keep the ice in top shape, with daily snow clearing and flooding,” the city said in a news release.

“If ice conditions change the rink may be closed temporarily to allow for the ice surface to improve.”

Helmets are encouraged on the ice but they are not mandatory, according to city officials.

Hockey sticks, pucks, glass containers, pets, strollers and sleds are not allowed on the ice.
