A person is in hospital after police shut down the highway outside Thunder Bay.

Police were forced to close a section of Highway 11/17 over a “weapons call” on Thursday afternoon.

“The involved individual has been transported to hospital,” stated the Thunder Bay Police Service in a release. “A visible police presence is expected to remain in the area. There may also be traffic disruptions in the area.”

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is now involved in the investigation.

They are tasked with looking into serious incidents involving police response in Ontario.
