The Canadian women’s roster was finalized last week and excitement is building around the team’s preparation for the 2025 International University Sports Federation (FISU) Winter World University Games.
Addie Miles-Abbott, Mount Allison Mounties Women’s Hockey Head Coach, has been named Canada’s assistant coach for this year’s FISU, held in Torino, Italy, from January 13-23.
Miles-Abbott mentioned people at the university have rallied behind her newly appointed position.
“I’ve received letters from parents and support from all the teams at the university. It’s an exciting moment for Mount Allison,” she said.
This year’s coaching staff is led by Head Coach Kelly Paton from Wilfrid Laurier University, with Miles-Abbott and Carleton University’s Stacey Colarossi as assistant coaches.
The coaching trio for the FISU Canadian Women’s Hockey team is working hard to unite the players and prepare for the high-level competition they will face in Torino.
“We’ve been recruiting players from all across the country, watching videos, and discussing with each other. Now, it’s about getting everyone on the same page,” Miles-Abbott said.
The new assistant coach expressed that the team they selected features a balanced roster with standout players from across Canada, including Gabrielle Santerre from Bishop’s University and Mackenzie Keenan from the University of New Brunswick.
“It’s about representing Canada, and we need to make sure we’re doing our part to represent Hockey Canada and our country in the best way possible,” Miles-Abbott said.
