The provincial government is investing a total of over $18 million to support some healthcare facilities in Thunder Bay and Atikokan.

“By providing this substantial funding, we’re equipping our healthcare providers with the resources they need to tackle urgent challenges that are unique to our area,” said Thunder Bay, Atikokan MPP, Kevin Holland. “This investment will help ensure our healthcare professionals can continue delivering the highest standard of care to the people of Thunder Bay – Atikokan, now and in the years to come.”

The hope is that the funding will allow the organizations to support and retain healthcare workers, improve access to care and better meet the specific healthcare needs of the residents in the region.

The funding is an additional investment to each organization’s base funding, supporting both immediate needs and long-term improvements

The following organizations are receiving funding:

  • Atikokan Health and Community Services – $184,690
  • St. Joseph’s Care Group – $3,155,914
  • Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre – $14,874,513

“This funding will help to mitigate some of our staffing costs so we can continue to provide inclusive, comprehensive, quality care in our hospital and long-term care home,” said the CEO of Atikokan Health and Community Services, Jennifer Learning.
