The Ornge air ambulance system is expanding.
Health Minister Sylvia Jones has announced $93 million adds to Ornge’s fleet of aircraft.
“This investment will expand the Ornge air ambulance fleet with the addition of two new larger, high speed, fixed-winged aircrafts which can complete double the number of long-distance patient transports compared to our current smaller aircraft,” Jones told a press conference on Tuesday.
Jones adds the new aircraft will improve access to the health care system.
“The new larger and faster aircraft will ensure Ornge’s air ambulance service can connect more patients to urgent care, especially those living in rural and remote communities.”
The funding will also create a new hanger in Simcoe County to house the aircraft.
Jones says the new airplanes can better connect people living in northern and rural communities to health care, when they need it.
