The province is creating a new agency to deal with emergencies.
It’s called Ontario Corps.
Associate Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Response Trevor Jones says they are involving a number of different organizations.
“Think of Ontario Corps as the structure, the leadership,” Jones told a press conference to announce the new agency.
“They set the cadence. They get the call…here’s what’s needed and where….resources, supplies, tools.”
Jones adds that a number of organizations of professionals and volunteers have agreed to be involved.
“Our Ontario Corp partners, whether its Team Rubicon, Global Medics, the Salvation Army, Feed Ontario, they now deploy what they need. Based on experience, training, the skill sets they have, to say this what they need, in a time of need. They deploy in concert with the Provincial Emergency Operations Center.”
Jones says Ontario Corps can provide things such as emergency shelter, debris management, food services and flood protection.
