The Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission is honoring people across the province for their commitment to their communities.

Five people and one group received the awards on Tuesday for their work to help youths, blind youths, seniors, Black and Indigenous Nova Scotians, as well as homeless people.

Two youths were awarded, Jemma Bowers in Sydney Mines and Caelin Lloyd in Halifax.

Laura MacDonald, Jude Clyke, and Rosalie Franics also received awards.

The Cumberland Homelessness and Housing Support Association was also honoured for their work.

The commission says these people show how we can all make positive change.
