Thunder Bay’s PRO Kids program has space to accept more children.

“PRO Kids is an invaluable program that benefits the children of low-income families in our community through financial assistance,” explained City Manager John Collin. “Sports, recreation and arts programs become much more affordable to families in need.”

Families who cannot afford to put their kids into community sports, arts, and activities can apply to the program for help.

PRO Kids is a registered charity created by social agencies, recreation providers, youth, and other community members in Thunder Bay.

“We can actually do more through the generous donations of individuals and corporations, and also through groups willing to increase the number of spaces they have available,” said Collin. “We are actually at this point in time, undersubscribed and can help many more children.”

The program can also help with transportation if that is a barrier to accessing programming.

“Those who are in low-income and qualify for the programs please reach out through the Pro Kids website,” added Collin. “It’s very easy to find, just Google it, PRO Kids Thunder Bay, and we would be more than willing to see what we can do to help those most in need.”

The program was started in 1998 and has helped place over 25,000 kids into activities.

PRO Kids is currently accepting donations on their website for Giving Tuesday.

They hope to raise $10,000 in 24 hours.
