Thunder Bay is seeking more feedback from residents on a temporary shelter village.

City Council was set to decide between two locations at the November 25 Committee of the Whole meeting but chose to vote against selecting a location.

Now the city is pursuing alternative options.

A new survey has been launched giving residents and business owners a chance to share more feedback.

The survey asks for input on how the project may benefit the community, suggestions for suitable locations, and for any other feedback.

You can also use an interactive map to propose potential sites.

The city is considering several factors in selecting a new location including proximity to essential services and transit, historical encampment areas, available space, construction readiness, safety considerations, emergency access requirements, and compatibility with current land uses.

In addition to looking at city-owned land, the city is open to proposals for the sale, rent or donation of private property that fit within budgetary constraints.

Residents can submit feedback on the city’s Get Involved Page, or by email at sheltervillage@thunderbay.ca.

The city is keeping the survey open until January 15, 2025.

The temporary shelter village will provide managed, temperature-controlled indoor shelter space with 24/7 support and on-site security.
