New Brunswick’s fisheries and aquaculture sectors are getting a boost in government funding.

More than $38 million in provincial and federal funding has been announced through the Atlantic Fisheries Fund.

Officials said the money will support the adoption of innovative technologies aimed at improving efficiency, seafood quality and sustainability.

“Our fisheries and aquaculture sectors drive a $1.7-billion industry that supports the economy and sustains rural, coastal and Indigenous communities in New Brunswick,” Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Pat Finnigan said in a news release.

“We are firmly committed to supporting the long-term sustainability and resilience of these sectors.”

More than 70 projects will support new infrastructure, innovation and scientific partnerships in processing, aquaculture, harvesting and multi-sector initiatives.
