By Brad Perry Nov 25, 2024 | 5:30 AM

Residents of Cap-Acadie now know what their tax rates will be for the upcoming year.

Councillors recently passed a $12.5-million operating budget for the 2025 fiscal year.

That is an increase of more than 16 per cent compared to the current $10.8-million budget.

Tax rates have been set at $1.34 Cap-Pelé, 63.66 cents in Haute-Aboujagane and 60.96 cents in East and West Cap-Acadie.

The town says council is committed to a long-term vision that promotes sound municipal management and achieves goals in the strategic plan and asset management plan.

Investments are necessary for the fire department, including a new truck and the construction of a new fire station to ensure public safety across the region.

Money is also needed for the maintenance of existing infrastructure such as parks, roads, the sewer system and recreational facilities.

“Our asset management plan guides us, and we want to invest to provide the best services to our population,” Mayor Serge Léger said in a news release.

Léger said with major projects like the Intergenerational Centre underway, the municipality must plan for reserve funds to manage its infrastructure.

“The council also wants to undertake other projects to support development in all communities that make up Cap-Acadie,” he said.

Meanwhile, for the sewer system budget, council adopted a budget of $752,497, with user fees remaining unchanged at $337 for the year.
