Boil water advisory in Sussex

By Brad Perry Nov 20, 2024 | 8:58 AM

New Brunswick Public Health has issued a boil water advisory for the entire town of Sussex.

Town officials said a “catastrophic failure” occurred during work on a section of watermain along Main Street on Tuesday.

Crews expected it would take around eight hours to complete repairs to the system.

“This water system work will require a breach in the water system integrity that could result in a potential contamination of drinking water in the immediate area of the break/failure, and, as such it is necessary to undertake this advisory as a precaution,” said a release from the town.

All water destined for drinking, preparing infant formulas and juices, washing fruits and vegetables, cooking, brushing teeth and dental hygiene should be held at a rolling boil for at least one minute.

It is not necessary to boil water used for other household purposes such as bathing, showering, laundry or washing hands and dishes. You should avoid swallowing the water when bathing or showering.

Residents in Ward 2, the former village of Sussex Corner, are not impacted by the advisory.
