Changes are coming to the hours of operation at one local border crossing.
Travellers can currently use the St. Croix port of entry, near McAdam, 24 hours a day.
But starting on Jan. 6, 2025, the crossing into Canada will only be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Atlantic Time.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced changes at 35 land ports of entry earlier this week.
“It will allow the CBSA to use its resources more efficiently by deploying officers at busier ports of entry,” the agency said in a news release.
“This alignment will also allow both countries to return inadmissible travellers and goods to the other country, which is more difficult when one side of the border is closed while the other remains open.”
The new hours align with the U.S. port of entry in Vanceboro, which is also open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Atlantic Time.
According to Google Maps, the nearest 24-hour border crossing is about a 40-minute drive away in St. Stephen.
CBSA said almost all of the impacted ports of entry are seeing an average of two or fewer cars or commercial trucks per hour during the hours that will no longer be in operation.
