Uptown Saint John parade set for Saturday

You better watch out, and you better not cry, Santa Claus will tell you why.

He’ll officially bring the festive spirit to Saint John on Saturday, November 16.

It’s the 71st year for the holiday parade tradition in the uptown, and the fun begins at 6 pm.

They have over 40 entries this year.

The parade will form on Crown Street between Paul Harris and Union Street at the causeway.

A slight deviation in the route this year.  It will turn onto Charlotte Street, but will not be going up Sydney Street to King Square north.

Thousands of people line the streets to welcome Saint Nick to Saint John.

Motorists should take note of the street closures affecting various streets in Uptown and North Saint John due to the parade.

They will be closed from 3 p.m. to 9 pm on November 16.
The specific areas affected are Crown Street (between Paul Harris Street and Union Street), Union Street (from Crown Street to Charlotte Street), Charlotte Street (from Union Street to King Street), King Street (from Charlotte Street to Saint Patrick Street), Saint Patrick Street (from King Street to Main Street North), Main Street North (from Saint Patrick Street to Lansdowne Avenue), Lansdowne Avenue (from Main Street North to Wellesley Avenue) and Wellesley Avenue (from Main Street North to Somerset Street).

Motorists will not be permitted to park on King Street and Union Streets,  (from Crown Street to Charlotte Street) starting at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Signs will be in place advising of the closures and detours.

Motorists are asked to drive with caution and be aware of pedestrians and workers.
