Like a lot of communities in northwestern Ontario, the City of Dryden is looking at a fairly sizable increase in its OPP costs in 2025.

Chief Administrative Officer Roger Nesbitt says they are looking at a 19 percent increase over this past year.

“It looks like our costs are set to increase by just over $1.1 million in 2025,” Nesbitt told city council on Monday at its open meeting.

“So that would bring us just over $6.9 million.”

Nesbitt says that brings their household cost for policing well above the provincial average.

“That equates a 19 percent increase.  That brings our per property cost, our OPP policing costs, to just over $1,756 estimated for 2025.”

He notes that the provincial average is closer to $350 dollars.

Other communities in the region are in the same boat with Kenora looking at a 37 percent increase and Fort Frances a 25 percent hike.
