The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg (MODL) is moving forward with a plan to safeguard its sewage systems against power outages by introducing two new generators.
The first installation, a fixed generator, is set for next year at a pump station in the Osprey Village development area, located just outside Bridgewater. This will mark the municipality’s first pump station equipped with a permanent backup generator which will help with reliability during blackouts.

In addition to the fixed generator, the municipality is acquiring a portable generator that can be used at various smaller collection stations across Cookville, Conquerall Bank, and New Germany.

This mobile unit will offer flexibility in power backup, as it can be transported to different sites as needed to maintain wastewater services during outages.

The generators were included in the municipality’s five-year capital plan due to the rising frequency and severity of power interruptions attributed to severe weather. The fixed generator installation is projected to cost $83,000, with an additional installation fee, while the mobile generator is priced at $84,000.
