Ackabee elected chief on Grassy Narrows

There’s a new chief on the Grassy Narrows First Nation, north of Kenora.

Sherry Ackabee beat out incumbent Rudy Turtle.

She becomes the first female chief of Grassy Narrows.

Ackabee picked up 109 votes to Turtle’s 99.

There are two new band councilors.

Joseph Devlin and Aaron Kokopenace join incumbents Little Bear Copenace and Arnold Pahpasay.

The band elections took place on October. 22nd.
