RCMP say dozens of vehicles have been towed following a traffic enforcement operation in southeastern New Brunswick.

The operation took place in the Greater Moncton, Salisbury, Petitcodiac and Sussex areas from Oct. 17 to 19.

A total of 125 vehicles were escorted to a specific site to be assessed by motor vehicle inspectors.

Sixty-six were towed at the owner’s expense and 48 were deemed to be unsafe, according to the RCMP.

Several inspection stations will also be investigated for not following motor vehicle inspection procedures.

In addition, officers issued 236 traffic violations, including 81 for speeding, 18 unsafe vehicles, 31 tickets for not wearing a seatbelt and 28 tickets for using a hand-held electronic device while driving.

Three people were issued a court date for driving while suspended, two others were issued short-term roadside suspensions, and five were arrested for warrants of arrest and committal.

Three vehicles were also stopped for speeding in excess of 50 km/h of the posted speed limit and were towed and impounded for seven days.
