Many small business owners directly impacted by crime – CFIB

By Kevin Northup Oct 24, 2024 | 1:37 PM

A concerning trend for small businesses in Atlantic Canada.

Nearly half of business owners say they’ve been directly impacted by crime over the last year.

According to a report from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, it’s jumped from 23 percent to 48 percent.

Vice-President Louis-Philippe Gauthier says small business owners should be able to close their door and come back the next day without worrying about theft or vandalism.

Those are the most common types of crime they’re experiencing.

The CFIB say it’s taking an emotional toll, with two-thirds of owners worrying about the safety of their staff and customers.

They’re also spending more on security measures.
