N.S. AG: Province does not have effective cybersecurity for health data

By Kevin Northup Oct 22, 2024 | 11:22 AM

The digital health records of Nova Scotians are at serious risk of cyberattacks.

That’s according to the province’s Auditor General, who made 20 recommendations in a new report.

Kim Adair says the province does not provide effective cybersecurity for the networks, and could expose the growing system to risk.

She says there’s a disconnect between the three government bodies that share responsibility, and they lack accountability.

Adair says several healthcare organizations in Canada have fallen victim to cyberattacks recently.

Her recommendations include creating IT governance to manage risks and mandatory training for all health network users.

Adair says she’ll follow up in one year with another report.
