Mood wins 4th term as Yarmouth mayor, Jacklin elected in Shelburne

By Kevin Northup Oct 19, 2024 | 7:15 PM

Four more years for Yarmouth’s Pam Mood.

She won her fourth consecutive term as mayor, defeating first-time runner Gurdeep Brar by just over 100 votes.

Speaking after her closest race yet, Mood says she’s honoured to continue to represent the town.

“Now is the time to use what I’ve learned over the last 12 years for the next four years, and just go forward. With the results, some people wanted change and more didn’t, so I’m thankful for democracy tonight,” said Mayor Mood.

She adds there are a lot of things provincially to focus on like housing and health, and she’ll continue to use her network to get the people of Yarmouth what they need.

In Shelburne, Stan Jacklin becomes the first Black mayor in the town’s history, defeating Sherry Doane by over 300 votes.

Jacklin says it’s pretty overwhelming and humbling.

“It’s nice to be chosen by my peers, it was a tough race but very rewarding. I feel good about it, but I know I’m here on my merit as opposed to the colour of my skin,” said Jacklin.

He says many in the town are concerned about the deer problem in town, affordable housing and business infrastructure.

Clay Kenney will be the new mayor in Clark’s Harbour, he edged incumbent Rex Stoddard by seven votes.

Derek Amalfa is the mayor-elect of the Town of Lockeport, defeating incumbent Cory Nickerson by just nine votes.

Argyle council will choose a new warden, Danny Muise lost his seat in District 1 to Malcolm Madden.

Many current wardens are keeping their seats, including Linda Gregory in the Municipality of Digby and Eddie Nickerson in Barrington.

Penny Smith of the Municipality of Shelburne, John Cunningham in Yarmouth and Yvon LeBlanc in Clare got in by acclamation.

Digby’s new mayor Mike Bartlett was also acclaimed.
